Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) save lives, time and money.
This technology includes closed circuit television cameras, dynamic message signs, traffic signal controllers, vehicle detection sensors, travel origin and destination sensors, wind sensors and the 511 system which are integrated into our transportation infrastructure, vehicles and communications.
To ensure coordinated planning for these evolving technologies, the North Florida TPO led the formation of the North Florida ITS Coalition in 2006 and produced the region’s first ITS Master Plan in 2007. In 2010 the Master Plan was updated to evaluate ITS accomplishments, identify and prioritize ITS needs, and plan for future technologies.
Since 2003 the TPO has invested over $30 million in intelligent transportation systems.
